Commiting to the Growth of BMX, Huffy Drops Primus, Its Second Pro-Level BMX Frame

Huffy has unveiled its second pro-level BMX frame, the Primus, marking a significant step in the brand’s renewed commitment to competitive BMX racing. Developed over 18 months with extensive input from Huffy’s factory team riders, the Primus was tested through multiple prototypes in national competitions before its official debut at the 2026 Legacy Nationals. Unlike last year’s Sledgehammer frame, which targeted freestyle riders, the Primus is designed specifically for racers competing at national and Olympic levels, reflecting Huffy’s focus on elite BMX performance. The Primus frame is constructed from 6061 T-6 aluminium and incorporates several innovative features aimed at enhancing both performance and maintenance. Notably, it employs a patent-pending captive external cable routing system that combines the clean look of internal routing with easier access for repairs. Additional technical highlights include toolless integrated chain tensioners, a tapered headtube for improved stiffness, and a T47 bottom bracket designed to accommodate future crank options, all developed in collaboration with professional racers to meet the demands of high-level competition. Huffy’s factory team has already demonstrated the Primus’s competitive potential, with riders achieving impressive results on the new frame. Two-time Olympian Nic Long secured victory at the USA BMX Grand Nationals, Carly Kane earned a silver medal at the USAC National Championships, and rookie Ethan Popovich reached the Elite Men podium for the first time. These achievements underscore the frame’s capability and the effectiveness of the development process involving direct racer feedback. Priced at $699, the Primus is available in gloss red and matte charcoal finishes and offered in three sizes to suit a range of riders. The frame supports hydraulic disc brakes and includes a 15mm rear axle, with additional axle sizes available aftermarket. This launch further solidifies Huffy’s presence in the BMX racing scene, complementing its broader efforts through the Huffy Pro BMX team, which actively promotes the sport by mentoring young riders and competing internationally. Huffy’s renewed focus on BMX is embodied in its diverse team of eight riders, who compete across race and freestyle disciplines while fostering grassroots development through coaching and clinics. The introduction of the Primus frame reinforces the brand’s ambition to grow BMX as a competitive sport and nurture the next generation of talent.
