Bosch Performance Upgrade 2.0 Delivers 120 Nm of Torque, New 12A Fast Charger, More!

Summary By: eMotoX
Bosch has announced a significant firmware update for its Performance Line CX and CX-R e-bike motors, promising a boost in torque up to 120 Nm and support levels reaching 600% at speeds below 15 kph. Rather than simply increasing raw power, the upgrade focuses on delivering enhanced assistance precisely when riders need it most, such as on steep climbs or technical terrain, without overwhelming the natural cycling experience. This intelligent power delivery aims to maintain a more authentic bike feel during regular riding while optimising battery life and potentially extending drivetrain durability. The update, named Performance Upgrade 2.0, will be available as a free over-the-air download from May 4, 2026, and does not require any hardware changes or service visits. Riders can customise torque output through the eBike Flow app, with maximum settings subject to individual bike manufacturer limits. The system dynamically adjusts support across various riding modes, offering up to 600% assistance in modes like RACE, TURBO, and CARGO under 15 kph, before tapering off to lower levels at higher speeds. This adaptive approach allows riders to conserve energy in easier sections and receive extra power only when tackling challenging obstacles. Additional features include an adjustable extended boost function that helps riders clear roots, rocks, or steps by providing a residual power burst of up to 2.2 yards, now configurable via the Flow app for each mode. A new digital drivetrain tensioner has been introduced to pre-tension the chain and reduce lag between motor and wheel, enhancing responsiveness in eMTB and Race modes. For those keen on tracking performance, the update also brings Trick Check, a tool that records and displays data on wheelies, jumps, manuals, and stoppies, adding a fun and practical element for improving riding skills. Bosch is also launching a new 12A fast charger capable of delivering 500 watts, compatible with models dating back to 2022. This charger can replenish a PowerTube 800 battery to 50% capacity in just one hour and features smart thermal management in a lightweight, portable design. While the full suite of updates will be limited to the BDU38 Performance Line CX and CX-R motors, some features will be available on other Bosch drive units, though certain functionalities, such as Trick Check, will not extend to cargo bike models. Overall, Bosch’s approach prioritises sustainability and rider empowerment by enhancing existing equipment rather than encouraging premature upgrades.
