All-New 2027 Scott Spark RC Reimagines Winningest Pro XC Mountain Bike Once Again
Summary By: eMotoX
Scott has unveiled the all-new 2027 Spark RC, a comprehensive redesign of its flagship cross-country (XC) mountain bike that has dominated elite-level racing for years. Renowned for pioneering wider 2.4-inch tyres and longer 120mm suspension travel in XC racing, the Spark RC now features a completely revamped suspension system inspired by longer-travel bikes. This new design aims to enhance grip, control, and suspension tuning options without compromising the bike’s lightweight characteristics, maintaining its status as a top contender in professional XC competitions.
The updated Spark RC introduces a sophisticated suspension layout that integrates the rear shock deeper into the downtube, reducing frame weight and improving balance by lowering the centre of gravity. Unlike its predecessor’s single-pivot system, the fifth-generation Spark employs a short-link pivot located beneath the crankset, combined with a flex-pivot in the rear triangle. This innovative setup allows the chainstay length to increase through the suspension travel, delivering a ride quality akin to a four-bar linkage while preserving a compact frame design. The flex-pivot is finely tuned to provide minimal deflection early in the travel for sensitivity, then progressively stiffens to offer support during aggressive riding, striking a balance between traction and pedalling efficiency.
Weight reduction remains a key focus, with the new HMX-SL frame weighing just 1427 grams without the shock, representing a 12% saving compared to the previous generation. Even when equipped with the electronic Flight Attendant shock, the complete frameset is lighter than before, offering around 5% weight savings in real-world setups used by professional racers. The shock’s integration inside the frame also protects it from contaminants and simplifies access to adjustment controls, aided by a magnetic cover and an external travel indicator for quick setup. Additionally, the bike features internal frame storage with a custom tool kit designed for on-trail repairs, highlighting Scott’s attention to practical details.
The 2027 Spark RC continues to embody Scott’s development philosophy centred on lightweight construction, refined ride dynamics, and seamless performance. Its new suspension kinematics deliver higher anti-squat characteristics for improved pedalling support, while maintaining sensitive travel to keep the rear tyre planted over technical terrain. This combination ensures riders benefit from enhanced power transfer and cornering grip, crucial for the demands of modern XC racing. With its blend of cutting-edge technology and race-proven pedigree, the Spark RC is poised to remain a dominant force in the XC mountain bike scene as it approaches its 2027 season debut.
