32″ Gravel Bikes of Sea Otter 2026: Fewer Than the MTBs, But They’re Coming

Summary By: eMotoX
The 2026 Sea Otter Classic showcased a growing interest in 32-inch wheels within the gravel bike segment, signalling a shift in focus from the mountain bike sphere where these larger wheels have previously garnered most attention. While 32-inch wheels remain in the development phase, several brands revealed new gravel bike models and components designed to leverage the benefits of this wheel size, such as increased traction, longer contact patches, and faster rolling speeds on loose terrain. The event highlighted that gravel bikes may be the ideal platform for 32-inch wheels, given the fewer complications compared to full-suspension mountain bikes. Salsa was among the first to unveil their 32-inch wheel gravel offerings, introducing the Fargo 32 and Fargo Ti 32 frame sets, made from steel and titanium respectively. These frames, launching in the autumn, will cater to a wide range of rider heights, including smaller sizes down to 5’2”, with geometry carefully adjusted to avoid toe overlap. Salsa’s development began in 2024, and alongside the frames, Teravail announced new 32-inch tire models with improved casings and tread options, while Circos plans to release carbon wheels tailored specifically for 32-inch gravel use later in the summer. Other manufacturers are also embracing the 32-inch trend. BTCHN showcased a geared gravel bike called the Bandito Ti, produced in steel and available in medium to extra-large sizes, alongside a single-speed model. Meanwhile, Faction Bike Studio continued their exploration with the Atlas Gravel concept, a carbon and aluminium frame designed to assess how oversized wheels affect gravel bike geometry and performance. Stinner, another key player, opted to start with titanium gravel prototypes, citing the relative uncertainty around 32-inch mountain bike standards and the need for iterative design focused on ride quality and geometry. The emergence of 32-inch gravel bikes is supported by a growing ecosystem of components, including wider rims from Boyd and new tyres from brands like Vittoria, which is promoting more sustainable rubber options. Industry insiders acknowledge that while the 32-inch wheel market is still nascent, the developments at Sea Otter suggest a promising future for this size in gravel cycling, with more models and accessories expected to follow as manufacturers refine their designs and respond to rider demand.
