The FOX 38 Factory GRIP X2 suspension fork has undergone a significant update, combining a redesigned chassis with refined internal components. Building on the success of its predecessor, which recently won a major suspension fork comparison test, the new model introduces enhancements without radically changing the core design. FOX has maintained the GRIP X2 damper system but improved its performance through a revised mid-valve piston and shim stack, aiming to deliver smoother oil flow and better breakaway performance. This latest iteration continues to serve the enduro and gravity segments with travel options of 160, 170, or 180 mm and compatibility for both 29” and 27.5” wheels. The fork also features the new NA3 GlideCore air spring unit, previously introduced on the FOX 36, designed to improve sensitivity by allowing slight multi-directional movement to compensate for chassis deformations under load. In terms of design and usability, the FOX 38 retains its clean and understated aesthetic, with subtle changes such as a new crown design inspired by the FOX 36. The fork is equipped with a 15 mm thru-axle, 200 mm post mount, and is compatible with brake rotors up to 230 mm, reflecting its high-end enduro and gravity bike focus. The updated fork also benefits from improved mudguard compatibility and refined bleed valves, although the new fender mounting system may require careful handling to avoid stripping screws. Despite these upgrades, the fork’s weight remains consistent with the previous model at around 2,412 grams for the 170 mm travel version. Pricing for the FOX 38 Factory GRIP X2 has been reduced to €1,499, making it more accessible within the premium suspension fork market. Alongside the Factory model with Kashima coating, FOX will offer a Performance Elite version featuring black stanchions and lowers, which shares the same high-quality damping technology but at a lower price point, though European pricing for this variant is yet to be confirmed.
