Scania sells 105 electric trucks to Swedish chemical firm

Scania has secured a significant order to deliver 105 electric trucks to Swedish chemical supplier Wibax, marking a substantial step forward in the manufacturer’s commitment to electrification. The deal, which spans five years, encompasses not only the supply of vehicles but also includes maintenance, charging infrastructure, and digital services. Wibax intends to deploy these trucks across its operations in Sweden and Finland, with the ultimate goal of transitioning its entire fleet to electric power. Wibax has been collaborating with Scania on electrification efforts since 2021, focusing heavily on utilising data-driven approaches to optimise their transition. By analysing driving patterns, route planning, and energy consumption, the company aims to implement an efficient and effective electrification strategy. This analytical approach is expected to help Wibax reduce operational costs while maximising the environmental benefits of electric trucks. Key figures from Wibax have expressed confidence in the partnership with Scania, highlighting the importance of a reliable and experienced supplier for such a large-scale project. Magnus Sundström, Chief Logistics Officer at Wibax, emphasised the urgency of electrifying their heavy vehicle fleet and the advantage of working with a trusted partner to meet their ambitious timetable. CEO Jonas Wiklund also noted the anticipated long-term commercial benefits, including lower overheads and the ability to offer customers more sustainable and competitively priced products. The agreement underscores a growing trend among industrial firms to adopt electric commercial vehicles as part of broader sustainability goals.
