Orange EV books largest single yard dog order in company’s history
Summary By: eMotoX
Orange EV has secured its largest single order to date, with a contract for 600 electric Class 8 terminal trucks, marking a significant milestone for the company. These terminal trucks, commonly known as yard dogs or terminal lorries in the UK, are specialised vehicles used to manoeuvre semi-trailers within logistics hubs such as warehouses and cargo yards. The firm aims to complete delivery of the entire order by the end of the year, underlining a pivotal moment in the electrification of yard operations.
Since delivering its first electric terminal truck in 2015, Orange EV has expanded its presence considerably, deploying over 1,900 trucks across more than 40 US states and four Canadian provinces. This new order alone will boost the company’s deployed fleet by approximately 32%, reinforcing its position as a leader in heavy-duty electric vehicles in North America. The company currently holds an order book of around 1,400 trucks, reflecting growing demand for zero-emission yard solutions.
Orange EV has also increased its production capacity through recent expansions at its Kansas City manufacturing facility, enabling it to produce up to 2,400 trucks annually without further assembly line investments. Kurt Neutgens, co-founder and President of Orange EV, highlighted that the market has moved beyond early adopters, with customers now committing to large-scale purchases due to proven advantages in total cost of ownership. These benefits include improved uptime, reliability, fuel savings, and comprehensive service guarantees, which are driving the broader adoption of electric terminal trucks.
The sizeable order and expanded production capabilities signal a broader shift in the logistics industry towards sustainable and efficient yard operations. As companies seek to reduce carbon footprints and operational costs, Orange EV’s growth reflects the increasing viability and appeal of electric vehicles in heavy-duty applications. The company’s success may encourage further investment and innovation in the electrification of industrial transport fleets in North America and potentially beyond.
