Valeo’s new Ineez bidirectional EV charging station implements ISO 15118-20, enables V2G
Summary By: eMotoX
Valeo has unveiled its latest innovation in electric vehicle charging technology with the introduction of the Ineez AC charging station. Presented at the Drive to Zero trade show in Paris, the device features bidirectional charging capabilities, allowing energy to flow both to and from the vehicle, and incorporates the ISO 15118-20 communication protocol. This protocol establishes a secure and universal interface between the EV and the charger, enabling advanced functionalities such as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration.
The core technology behind Valeo’s V2G offering is based on a software and hardware platform initially developed by IoTecha, which Valeo has since acquired. Central to the system is Valeo’s cloud-based IoT.ON platform, which facilitates real-time communication between the vehicle, the charging station, and the electricity grid. This connectivity allows for dynamic energy management, optimising charging costs and ensuring safe control of bidirectional energy flows, while also accommodating varying grid regulations across different countries through flexible embedded software.
Isabelle D’Ambrosio, Valeo’s Vice President of Smart Mobility, emphasised the company’s commitment to combining industrial expertise with advanced software protocols. She highlighted that the Ineez charging station not only brings V2G technology to the market but also incorporates the latest communication standards to secure the interface between vehicle and charger. This approach aims to make energy flexibility more accessible and future-proof for customers, supporting the broader transition to sustainable mobility.
Valeo’s new Ineez charger represents a significant step towards integrating electric vehicles more closely with the energy grid, potentially enabling EV owners to contribute to grid stability and benefit from energy trading opportunities. As the adoption of bidirectional charging grows, such innovations could play a key role in the development of smart grids and the optimisation of renewable energy use. The launch signals Valeo’s intent to be a major player in the evolving landscape of electric mobility and energy management.
