Canyon Announces the All-New Torque AL, a “Long-Travel Bruiser” for All Forms of Gravity Riding
Summary By: eMotoX
Canyon has introduced the all-new Torque AL, a long-travel aluminium mountain bike designed for aggressive gravity riding disciplines such as enduro, freeride, and downhill. This latest iteration marks a significant redesign from previous models, featuring a robust Category 5 rated aluminium frame and 180mm of suspension travel front and rear. The Torque AL aims to provide a versatile and capable platform that balances performance with affordability, offering complete builds priced between €2,499 and €3,999.
The bike’s design incorporates a refined four-bar Horst Link suspension system with updated kinematics to enhance climbing efficiency without compromising downhill prowess. It features a mullet wheel setup—29 inches at the front and 27.5 inches at the rear—except for the XS frame, which uses 27.5-inch wheels front and rear. The frame is compatible with both single-crown forks up to 180mm travel and dual-crown forks up to 190mm, with a dedicated downhill build featuring a RockShox Boxxer fork planned for release later this year. Additional frame details include internal cable routing, protective guards, and space for a water bottle, reflecting a practical approach to durability and maintenance.
Geometry-wise, the Torque AL is tailored for confidence on steep and technical terrain, featuring a slack head tube angle of 63.5 to 64 degrees, a steep effective seat tube angle close to 79 degrees, and adjustable chainstay lengths between 430mm and 440mm. The bike also incorporates a flip-chip to fine-tune the geometry by 0.5 degrees, allowing riders to customise handling characteristics based on their preferences or terrain. These modern measurements contribute to a stable yet playful ride, suitable for a range of gravity-focused disciplines.
Canyon emphasises value with the Torque AL, positioning it as a high-performance machine that avoids the premium price tags often associated with carbon frames and electronic drivetrains. The entry-level Torque AL 7 comes equipped with RockShox ZEB and Vivid Air suspension, Shimano Deore drivetrain, and Shimano SLX brakes, while the top-tier Torque AL 9 features Fox Factory suspension and SRAM Eagle components. The forthcoming Torque AL DH build will cater specifically to downhill riders, rounding out the range.
The Torque AL is now available in select markets via Canyon’s website, offering riders a competitively priced option for long-travel gravity riding. With its combination of durable aluminium construction, thoughtful geometry, and versatile build options, the Torque AL stands as a compelling choice for those seeking a capable and accessible mountain bike for demanding terrain.
