Romain Febvre on pole in Germany
Summary By: eMotoX
Romain Febvre secured pole position for the German round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship at Teutschenthal by winning the Qualifying race, marking his first victory of the season. Starting from the fifth gate pick, the Kawasaki Racing Team rider capitalised on an ideal line through the initial turn and maintained a strong pace to fend off close pressure from Tim Gajser. Despite encountering traffic in the closing stages, Febvre kept his composure to cross the line first, consolidating his third place in the overall championship standings.
Febvre described the race as intense, highlighting the challenge of defending his lead with Gajser closely pursuing him throughout. He noted the difficulty in experimenting with new lines due to the proximity of his rival, who could see his moves while Febvre could not discern Gajser’s path amid the rutted corners. The victory also secured him a favourable inside gate pick for the upcoming motos, which he acknowledged would be advantageous on the technical Teutschenthal track.
Kawasaki teammates also had notable performances, with Pauls Jonass making an impressive start to finish eighth after a brief dip in form mid-race. Jonass commented on the challenging track conditions, which combined hard-pack and sandy sections, complicating bike setup. In the MX2 class, Mathis Valin showcased strong racecraft by recovering from a poor start to finish fifth, while Kay Karssemakers overcame early contact to finish twelfth.
In the European EMX250 Championship, Jake Cannon delivered a standout ride, climbing from seventh to fourth and setting some of the fastest laps of the race. However, a late-race incident cost him a podium finish. Meanwhile, championship leader Francisco Garcia faced difficulties, retiring early in the moto but maintaining a solid points lead. In the Women’s WMX category, Courtney Duncan made a promising return after a long layoff, fighting back from an early setback to claim third place in the first moto, signalling a positive comeback for the four-time world champion.
