LDV taps into “seismic shift” in Australia market with release of smaller eDeliver 5 electric van

Summary By: eMotoX
Chinese automaker LDV has officially launched the eDeliver 5 electric van in Australia, marking an expansion of its existing electric commercial vehicle lineup that already includes the eDeliver 7 and eDeliver 9 models. The new eDeliver 5 is positioned as one of the most affordable electric vans in the country, with a limited-time introductory price starting at $47,990 drive-away for ABN holders. Orders are now being accepted online and through selected dealers, with customer deliveries expected to begin in July 2026. The eDeliver 5 will be available in three variants, all powered by a 120 kW electric motor and equipped with a 64 kWh battery capable of vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. The model range includes a short wheelbase (SWB) low-roof version and two long wheelbase (LWB) options featuring low and high roofs. Driving ranges vary between 301km and 335km depending on the variant, with payload capacities up to 1,265kg. Charging times are competitive, with DC fast charging enabling a charge from 20 to 80 per cent in around 36 minutes. LDV Australia’s general manager, Dinesh Chinnappa, highlighted the broader market context driving the launch, citing geopolitical tensions, fuel insecurity, and rising diesel prices as factors accelerating demand for electric commercial vehicles. The company expedited the eDeliver 5’s arrival, even air-freighting the first unit to Australia for final validation. Chinnappa emphasised that the van’s combination of affordability, practicality, and range makes it well suited to small business operators looking for cost-effective and sustainable transport solutions. The eDeliver 5 features a three-seat cabin, modern infotainment with a 12.3-inch touchscreen supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and practical cargo access through sliding side doors and rear barn doors. Cargo volumes range from 6.6m³ to 8.7m³ depending on the variant. LDV’s pricing strategy aims to undercut many diesel alternatives, with private buyers facing slightly higher prices but still benefiting from competitive drive-away costs. With this launch, LDV continues to build on its pioneering role in Australia’s electric van market, broadening its product range to meet diverse business needs. The limited stock available during the launch period is expected to generate strong interest, and the company encourages prospective buyers to register early with dealers. This move signals a growing shift in the Australian commercial vehicle sector towards electrification amid evolving economic and environmental pressures.
