Sidi Shot 3 cycling shoe review: A large improvement on the Shot 2, but still lacking that little bit

The Sidi Shot 3 cycling shoe marks a significant advancement over its predecessor, the Shot 2S, addressing many of the earlier model’s shortcomings with improved fit, comfort, and performance. Positioned as Sidi’s flagship road shoe, the Shot 3 incorporates a redesigned monocoque upper with an internal net structure, enhancing stiffness and breathability. The shoe also features new aluminium NUUN 001C dials for precise adjustment, a stiffer carbon sole extending up the heel for better foot lockdown, and the latest Millenium fit, which offers a wider toe box and greater volume to accommodate diverse foot shapes. In terms of construction, the Shot 3 retains the core elements of the Shot 2S such as the carbon fibre sole and microfibre upper but introduces notable refinements. Performance-wise, the Shot 3 offers a markedly better fit and comfort compared to the Shot 2S, which was criticised for its narrow, outdated shape and lack of stiffness. The new Millenium last, first seen on the Ergo 6, provides a more modern, accommodating fit with a wider toe box and higher volume, making the shoe suitable for a broader range of riders. However, some users may find the length slightly short, with toes feeling cramped under intense effort. The insole remains a point of contention, lacking arch support for those with higher arches, though it suits flatter feet well. Despite these improvements, the Shot 3 is not without its drawbacks. Some riders may experience rubbing on the wider sides of the shoe against cranks, and the rear heel adjustment is considered somewhat redundant. Additionally, the retention system can occasionally feel insufficient. While the shoe commands a premium price, it delivers a high-performance package that elevates Sidi’s offering but still leaves room for refinement in future iterations.
