Race results: WMX RD1 – Lacapelle-Marival

Kiara Fontanesi delivered a commanding performance in the opening round of the Women’s Motocross (WMX) championship at Lacapelle-Marival, securing victory in the first race. Despite Lotte van Drunen taking the holeshot, Fontanesi and Daniela Guillen quickly overtook her on the opening lap. The race proved challenging for van Drunen, who suffered a crash after getting caught in a rut on the finish line jump, an incident that also affected other riders including Courtney Duncan. April Franzoni impressed on home soil by claiming third place, while Malou Jakobsen showcased strong racecraft by recovering from a poor start to finish fourth, overtaking Lynn Valk in the process. Lucy Barker also made a notable comeback from a difficult start, ultimately finishing seventh. Van Drunen, despite her setbacks and being lapped, managed to claw her way back to ninth position, demonstrating resilience in tough conditions. Courtney Duncan’s race was marred by a second fall as she battled to maintain position ahead of van Drunen, resulting in a twelfth-place finish.
