LiveWire Group has made a significant move into the electric off-road motorcycle market by acquiring Dust Moto Company, marking its first-ever acquisition. This strategic purchase aims to extend LiveWire’s reach beyond its traditional road-focused electric motorcycles, building on its decade-long experience with the STACYC balance bike brand for children. By integrating Dust Moto’s electric dirt bike platform, LiveWire plans to leverage its engineering capabilities, manufacturing scale, and international sales network to bring the off-road model into full production. Dust Moto, founded by Colin Godby, has earned a strong reputation for its expertise in electric off-road motorcycles prior to the acquisition. Godby will remain involved with the project, expressing enthusiasm about the partnership and highlighting the shared values between the two American performance brands. He emphasised that LiveWire’s global presence offers Dust Moto’s electric dirt bike an opportunity to reach a much wider audience than it could have managed alone, signalling a promising future for the product. LiveWire’s CEO Karim Donnez described the acquisition as a natural extension of the company’s vision, noting the rapid growth of the electric off-road segment. He pointed to the advantages electric powertrains bring to off-road riding, such as instant torque, low maintenance, quieter operation, and simpler mechanics, which are increasingly attracting riders. Donnez also highlighted Dust Moto’s off-road expertise as a valuable asset that will strengthen LiveWire’s position in the electric powersports market. While specific details about the new electric dirt bike model remain under wraps, LiveWire has confirmed plans to reveal more information in the latter half of 2026. The acquisition signals LiveWire’s commitment to diversifying its product portfolio and capitalising on emerging trends within electric motorsport, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape in the off-road electric motorcycle sector.
