Interview: Jack Deasy – From Dublin to Belgium in pursuit of Motocross progression

Irish motocross talent Jack Deasy has taken a bold step in his young career by relocating from Dublin to Belgium to immerse himself in one of the sport’s most challenging environments. Specialising in the 85cc class, Deasy has been competing regularly against Europe’s top young riders, notably stepping up to contest the full Dutch Masters of Motocross championship in 2026. This move has allowed him to gain invaluable experience on demanding sand tracks and in highly competitive fields, accelerating his development as a rider. Adapting to life in Belgium has presented its challenges, but Deasy has settled well both on and off the bike, attending school locally and training more intensively than was possible in Ireland. He has faced the notorious sand tracks of Belgium and Holland, including the infamous Lommel circuit, which initially tested his skills and resilience. Despite early difficulties, he now benefits from regular training on these tough terrains, which has been crucial for his progression and confidence. Racing in the Dutch Masters series has exposed Deasy to professional race environments alongside Grand Prix riders, offering a unique learning platform. He praises the high level of competition and the quality of the events, noting that competing against the front-runners helps him gauge the speed required at the top level. While his race results have been mixed, with highlights such as strong performances at Harfsen, Deasy remains focused on continuous improvement rather than immediate podium finishes. Looking ahead, Deasy plans to continue racing in mainland Europe, with no current intentions to compete in Ireland or the UK, although this could change in the future. He aims to complete the Dutch Nationals season and is considering a possible appearance in the ADAC Masters series. Having recently aged out of the EMX85 category, he hopes to progress to EMX125 races, signalling his ambition to climb the European motocross ladder. Deasy draws inspiration from established motocross stars like Jorge Prado and Ken Roczen, admiring their riding styles and mental toughness. His ultimate goal is to race in America, but for now, he is committed to honing his skills and gaining experience in Europe’s toughest competitions. His early maturity and dedication suggest a promising future as he continues to chase higher honours in the sport.
