UCI Gravel World Series: Early sprint clinches Geerike Schreurs victory at The Gralloch while Lukas Pöstlberger crosses the line solo to keep wins rolling

Summary By: eMotoX
Lukas Pöstlberger and Geerike Schreurs emerged victorious at The Gralloch, a key event in the UCI Gravel World Series held in Scotland. Pöstlberger, representing Rose Racing Circle, secured a solo win after breaking away early alongside Jenson Young and Michael Woods. Meanwhile, Schreurs of Specialized Off-Road claimed the women’s title by out-sprinting Karolina Migoń in a tactical finish, adding to her recent podium at The Traka 360. The race featured a challenging 111-kilometre course with significant elevation, weaving through the rugged terrain of Galloway Forest Park. In the men’s race, Pöstlberger’s early escape proved decisive as Young was forced to drop back briefly to fix a puncture, and Woods later fell behind, leaving the Austrian champion to ride alone to the finish. Despite his setback, Young recovered to claim second place, while Belgian gravel champion Niels Vandeputte secured third after a late chase. Woods, who had been part of the leading trio, ultimately finished seventh. Young expressed pride in his performance at a home race, highlighting the competitive nature of the field and the presence of established riders. The women’s competition saw an early breakaway involving Schreurs, Migoń, and Shrosbree, with PAS Racing’s Wendy Oosterwoud joining the front group as the race progressed. Schreurs and Migoń eventually pulled clear, setting the stage for a final sprint. Schreurs credited her victory to a well-timed long sprint, which allowed her to edge out Migoń by two seconds after a demanding race featuring over 1,700 metres of climbing. Oosterwoud held on for third place, narrowly ahead of Shrosbree. The Gralloch’s course, predominantly gravel, offered a rigorous test of endurance and skill through the scenic but tough landscape surrounding Gatehouse of Fleet. This event was one of two UCI Gravel World Series races taking place over the weekend, the other being SEVEN in Nannup, Australia, which will also serve as a preview for the upcoming Gravel World Championships. Performances at these events are crucial, as the top 25% of riders in each category earn qualification for the coveted rainbow jersey races later in the season.
