SCHURTER acquires majority stake in China’s Biaodi, adding pyrotechnic and high-voltage EV fuses to its lineup

Swiss electronic components manufacturer SCHURTER has acquired a majority stake in Biaodi, a Chinese company specialising in high-voltage circuit protection products for electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy applications. This strategic move expands SCHURTER’s product range to include Biaodi’s advanced fuses designed for EV onboard systems, pyrotechnic fuses for emergency disconnection, and AC fuses used in charging stations, energy storage, data centres, and wind power installations. The acquisition highlights SCHURTER’s commitment to strengthening its position in the rapidly growing EV and new energy sectors. Biaodi’s pyrotechnic fuses represent a particularly innovative aspect of the portfolio, employing a small explosive charge to quickly and decisively sever battery circuits in the event of a crash or severe fault. This technology offers a faster and more reliable response than conventional fuses, making it an essential safety component in modern high-voltage EV architectures. By integrating these products, SCHURTER addresses critical gaps in its circuit protection offerings and enhances its capability to serve core markets such as energy, data centres, and mobility. Lars Brickenkamp, CEO of SCHURTER, emphasised the strategic value of the acquisition, noting that Biaodi’s technology complements and strengthens SCHURTER’s existing portfolio. The company, which has a long history dating back to 1933 and is headquartered in Lucerne, Switzerland, intends to leverage its global manufacturing and distribution network to scale Biaodi’s business beyond China. This expansion is expected to accelerate growth in key international markets and reinforce SCHURTER’s role as a leading supplier of electronic components for the evolving electric vehicle and renewable energy industries.
