Fizik Updates Ergolace 2 Adventure Riding Shoes with Clip, Flat & New GORE-TEX Option
Summary By: eMotoX
Fizik has unveiled the Ergolace 2, an updated version of its adventure-focused off-road cycling shoe designed for a variety of trail conditions and bikepacking demands. Building on the original Terra Ergolace platform, the new iteration offers both clip-in and flat pedal options, alongside a lightweight upper available with or without a new GORE-TEX Invisible Fit waterproof membrane. The Ergolace 2 introduces several key refinements, including a redesigned sock-like bootie construction for a more uniform fit and improved water resistance, as well as a new speed-lacing system that allows quick adjustments on the move.
One of the standout features of the Ergolace 2 is the incorporation of the GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane, marking a first in cycling footwear. This membrane, typically found in high-performance running and hiking shoes, aims to provide waterproofing without compromising the shoe’s flexibility or fit. Fizik has also enhanced the shoe’s sole with new Vibram treads developed in collaboration with the brand, featuring MegaGrip for clip-in models and XS Ride for flat pedals. These soles promise improved grip both on and off the bike, while the clip-in versions boast increased stiffness for better power transfer.
Despite claims of weight reduction in Fizik’s promotional materials, the actual weights of the new Ergolace 2 models reveal a different story. Measurements show the updated shoes are generally heavier than their predecessors, with some models gaining up to 77 grams per shoe. While this increase may be negligible for casual riders, it could be more noticeable for those prioritising lightweight gear. Further hands-on testing will be required to assess how these weight differences affect performance and comfort in real-world conditions.
The Ergolace 2 range is available in four configurations—flat or clipless pedals, each with or without the GORE-TEX membrane. Pricing is set at around €150 for the standard versions and €190 for the waterproof models, with sizes spanning from 36 to 48 and several colour options on offer. This update positions Fizik’s adventure shoe as a versatile choice for riders seeking durable, weather-resistant footwear that can handle diverse terrain and extended rides.
