BMC throws the kitchen sink at the all-new Kaius gravel bike, with clearance for up to 52mm tyres

BMC has unveiled the all-new Kaius gravel bike, a model that emphasises a holistic approach to performance by combining aerodynamic efficiency with the capability to run significantly wider tyres. Unlike many gravel bikes that sacrifice comfort for speed, the Kaius integrates frame and fork designs that accommodate tyres up to 52mm wide, offering enhanced trail compliance, stability, and comfort without resorting to suspension systems. This latest iteration builds on the original 2022 Kaius, which featured a 45mm tyre clearance, by extending chainstays and refining geometry to support the increased tyre width while maintaining a race-oriented feel. The development of the new Kaius reflects a growing trend in gravel bike design that prioritises wider tyres for their ability to improve traction and comfort on rough terrain while also contributing to speed. BMC has not simply adapted an existing frame but re-engineered tube shapes, layup materials, and frame architecture to optimise aerodynamics alongside tyre clearance.
