Campagnolo Record returns with 13 speeds and a more affordable price point
Summary By: eMotoX
Campagnolo has revived its Record groupset, reintroducing it as a 13-speed option positioned between the Chorus and Super Record tiers. The new Record 13 platform closely follows the design and functionality of the high-end Super Record 13 groupset launched last year but is offered at a significantly more accessible price point. This move marks the return of a long-standing favourite that had been absent from the Campagnolo range since last year, much to the disappointment of loyal fans.
The updated Record groupset maintains compatibility with Super Record components and offers a range of configurations, including 2x13 road and all-road setups, as well as three one-by options tailored for gravel, road, and X-road use. While sharing the same electronic shifting speed and design language as Super Record 13, the Record 13 is heavier by 208 to 348 grams depending on the version, due to the use of less exotic materials such as steel axles instead of titanium and stainless steel bearings instead of ceramic. Despite these compromises, the groupset retains high performance with a claimed battery range of 750km and multiple derailleur options to suit different riding styles.
Campagnolo has been transparent about the differences between Record and Super Record, emphasising that the more affordable Record is a “less extreme” but still highly capable groupset. The price differential is substantial, with the Record 2x13 road groupset retailing at around €2,699 compared to the €4,300 cost of Super Record 13. This pricing positions Record competitively against rivals like SRAM Force AXS, making it a more viable choice for both OEM bike manufacturers and consumers seeking premium performance without the premium price.
The release of Record 13 also comes amid internal restructuring at Campagnolo, following rumours of mass layoffs earlier this year which the company has denied. The launch of a more affordable yet technologically advanced groupset could signal a strategic shift towards broader market appeal and product accessibility. With availability beginning in mid-2026 for some versions, the new Record groupset may well pave the way for further innovations aimed at balancing cost, performance, and quality in Campagnolo’s future offerings.
