Wolf Tooth Works with Joe Breeden on New Bar Ends to Decrease Arm Pump & Fatigue
Summary By: eMotoX
Wolf Tooth Components has collaborated with downhill mountain biker Joe Breeden to develop a new type of bar end designed to reduce arm pump and hand fatigue during rides. Unlike traditional bar ends or ‘bark busters,’ these innovative grips provide additional steering input by allowing riders to push against the side of their palm, offering a more secure and relaxed hold on the handlebars. This concept, pioneered by Breeden under his AXESS UNLTD brand, aims to improve control and comfort on long, demanding descents.
Breeden’s original designs consisted of half or full circle grip sections that bolt onto the ends of handlebars, supplementing existing grips. The new partnership with Wolf Tooth has resulted in a fully moulded bar end that contours to the hand, enhancing grip and offering some protection for the pinky finger and knuckles. However, the design requires open-ended grips, which may limit compatibility or necessitate modifications to existing grips that are not open-ended.
While the initial motivation for these bar ends was to meet the rigours of top-level downhill racing, Wolf Tooth sees broader potential for the product, particularly among e-bike riders who often handle heavier bikes and face similar issues with arm fatigue. The company anticipates the product will retail at around $35 per pair and expects to launch by the end of May. This development could represent a significant ergonomic advancement for both competitive and recreational riders seeking greater comfort and control.
