Xpeng launches its biggest EV and showcases AI tech at Beijing Auto Show
Summary By: eMotoX
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has unveiled its largest electric SUV yet, the six-seater GX, at the Auto China 2026 show in Beijing. The GX was the highlight of Xpeng’s display, which also featured other models such as the affordable Mona M03, the P7 fastback sedan, and the X9 people mover. Alongside these vehicles, the company showcased a range of AI-driven innovations including its humanoid robot Iron, the Land Aircraft Carrier flying car concept, and advanced autonomous driving technologies, signalling a broadening of Xpeng’s ambitions beyond traditional EVs.
The GX SUV incorporates Xpeng’s latest computing hardware and AI chip, designed to support future Robotaxi capabilities. The company has recently introduced its VLA 2.0 autonomous driving system, which has demonstrated significant improvements in real-world testing. The system adeptly navigated complex urban environments in Beijing, handling narrow streets, mixed traffic, and even unpaved surfaces with a level of smoothness and safety comparable to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology. Xpeng plans to continue refining the system to better manage challenging scenarios such as low-light conditions, adverse weather, and unmarked roads.
He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng, emphasised the company’s transition into a new era of “Physical AI,” integrating smart EVs, flying cars, humanoid robots, and AI chips to transform mobility. He highlighted that the true value of intelligent driving lies not only in technical capability but also in enhancing efficiency and providing a more relaxing driving experience. This integrated approach underlines Xpeng’s vision of a future where AI-driven technologies fundamentally reshape transportation.
The GX is poised to be a strong contender in China’s growing large electric SUV market, combining luxury design cues with advanced technology features. It boasts a spacious interior with a large central infotainment screen and an additional fold-down screen for rear passengers, catering to comfort and entertainment needs. As Xpeng continues to expand its product lineup and AI capabilities, the GX represents a significant step in the company’s strategy to capture a larger share of the electric mobility market while pushing the boundaries of autonomous driving technology.
