'A new chapter for the team' – Ineos Grenadiers unveil Netcompany as new title sponsor
Summary By: eMotoX
The British cycling team formerly known as Team Sky and Ineos Grenadiers has announced a significant new partnership with Danish IT firm Netcompany, which will become a co-title sponsor. From the start of the Giro d’Italia on 8 May, the team will race under the name Netcompany INEOS Cycling Team, sporting a new kit to mark the occasion. Ineos, owned by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, remains the majority owner, while Netcompany has committed to a five-year sponsorship deal reportedly worth around €20 million annually.
This partnership represents more than just financial backing; it is described as one of the most important technological and commercial collaborations in professional cycling. Central to the deal is Netcompany’s AI-driven platform, PULSE, which is already used in major airports such as Heathrow and Munich to optimise operations. The technology aims to enhance real-time decision-making and performance optimisation within the team, potentially revolutionising how data is used in elite sport. Team Principal Dave Brailsford emphasised that PULSE will help translate vast amounts of data into clear, actionable insights to support faster and better decisions during training and racing.
Brailsford, recently reinstated as Team Principal, hailed the sponsorship as a major vote of confidence in both the team and the sport. He highlighted the partnership’s long-term stability as crucial for sustained success, with the ultimate goal of securing an eighth Tour de France victory. This ambition is particularly poignant given the team’s recent struggles to maintain dominance amid the rise of rivals such as UAE Team Emirates and Visma-Lease a Bike, who have claimed the last six yellow jerseys between them.
The Netcompany deal marks only the third title sponsorship in the team’s history since its formation as Sky Procycling in 2010. The team’s early years were defined by British riders’ Tour de France triumphs, including Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, and Egan Bernal. However, since rebranding as Ineos Grenadiers in 2020, the team has not won the Tour, making this new chapter under Netcompany a crucial moment in their quest to return to the pinnacle of the sport.
Netcompany, founded in Copenhagen in 1999, has rapidly expanded to become a leading European IT services provider, with high-profile contracts including digital operations for Heathrow Airport. The partnership with Ineos Grenadiers reflects the company’s growing ambition to innovate beyond traditional sectors and into elite sports performance. With Ratcliffe committed to maintaining ownership through 2030, the collaboration promises to bring fresh resources and technological expertise to help the team compete consistently at the highest level.
