ChargePoint’s new Express Solo EV charger delivers 600 kW
Summary By: eMotoX
ChargePoint has launched its latest standalone electric vehicle (EV) charger, the Express Solo, which is capable of delivering up to 600 kW of power. This new model represents a significant advancement in DC fast charging technology, developed in partnership with Eaton, a specialist in intelligent power management. Notably, the Express Solo will be ChargePoint’s first DC charger to be marketed in both Europe and North America, signalling the company’s expanding global ambitions.
The Express Solo is designed with a compact footprint, making it ideal for locations where space is limited, such as urban petrol stations and convenience stores. It can charge two vehicles simultaneously and offers the flexibility to connect an additional dispenser, allowing up to four vehicles to be charged at once. The system intelligently manages power distribution, providing any combination of power levels up to 600 kW per port, ensuring efficient and adaptable charging for multiple users.
Rick Wilmer, ChargePoint’s CEO, emphasised the charger’s innovative architecture, highlighting not only its high output but also its economical and efficient power delivery. He pointed out the Express Solo’s ability to integrate directly with solar power and battery storage systems, enhancing its sustainability credentials. The modular design also allows for scalable deployment, reducing costs and complexity for operators looking to expand their charging infrastructure.
This development comes at a time when the demand for rapid and flexible EV charging solutions is increasing, particularly in urban environments where space constraints pose challenges. By introducing a high-powered, space-efficient charger that supports multiple vehicles simultaneously, ChargePoint is addressing a critical need in the evolving EV market. The Express Solo could play a key role in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles by improving accessibility and reducing charging times.
