Italian cobblers Fizik make Lachlan Morton's gravel-race shoes roomier
Summary By: eMotoX
Italian cycling shoe manufacturer Fizik has unveiled the Ferox 2 Carbon, an updated model designed specifically for gravel racing and cross-country mountain biking. Building on the success of the original Ferox, the new shoe features a more anatomical shape, developed in collaboration with elite riders including Lachlan Morton. This redesign aims to accommodate wider feet by expanding the toe box and reducing heel drop, enhancing comfort and reducing strain on ankles and calves during technical descents.
The Ferox 2 Carbon retains Fizik’s distinctive Powerstrap closure system, but it has been refined to be thinner, lighter, and more flexible, improving pressure distribution across the foot. A new angled loop secures the strap to the footbed and outsole, increasing power transfer efficiency. The closure system is complemented by a Boa Li2 dial, allowing precise adjustment for a secure fit.
Significant changes have also been made to the shoe’s upper, which now uses a water-repellent PU-laminated material instead of the previous perforated fabric. This new material is lighter, more durable, and incorporates a breathable mesh for improved ventilation. Meanwhile, the sole has been upgraded with a full carbon plate rated at the highest stiffness level by Fizik, designed to maximise stability and power transfer. The carbon outsole is wider and lower than before, with a rubber-coated tread and stud fitments for better traction on varied terrain.
Weighing in at 295 grams, the Ferox 2 Carbon is slightly lighter than its predecessor and is available in a broad size range from 36 to 48, including half sizes. Priced at £319.99, this shoe represents Fizik’s continued commitment to combining Italian craftsmanship with cutting-edge performance features to meet the demands of the growing gravel racing market.
