Maxxis Aspen AT Rolls Out a Knobbier XC MTB Tire to Lead Out Wide 5 x 32″ Tread Line-Up
Summary By: eMotoX
Maxxis has introduced the Aspen AT, a more aggressive addition to its popular cross-country (XC) mountain bike tyre range, now available in 32-inch sizes alongside the original Aspen, Aspen ST, Forekaster, and Dissector models. Designed to provide enhanced grip on wetter and looser terrain, the Aspen AT features beefier tread blocks compared to its predecessors, transforming the thin central chevrons into more substantial, trail-ready knobs. Despite its increased aggressiveness, the tyre retains a fast-rolling character suited to XC racing, making it a versatile option for marathon and downcountry trail riders seeking a balance between speed and traction.
The Aspen AT is constructed with a lightweight 120 TPI single-ply casing and incorporates EXO-level puncture protection, alongside Maxxis’ MaxxSpeed rubber compound, which is rated for e-bike use (E50). It is tubeless-ready and comes exclusively in a 2.4-inch width, available for both 29- and 32-inch wheels. This launch completes Maxxis’ 32-inch tyre line-up, which now offers five distinct models catering to a range of riding styles—from gravel and XC to more technical trail riding—reflecting the growing interest in 32-inch wheels within the mountain biking community.
Maxxis has also unveiled a significant update to its MaxxTerra rubber compound, promising a 15% increase in grip and a 30% boost in durability without sacrificing rolling efficiency. This new single-compound rubber is being rolled out across many of Maxxis’ trail and gravity tyres, including the Rekon, Forekaster, Dissector, and Minion series. The improvement addresses rider demands for longer-lasting tyres that maintain performance, marking a notable advancement in tyre technology for the brand’s mid-range offerings.
While the Aspen AT and several other 32-inch tyres are available immediately, the knobbier Forekaster and Dissector models in 32-inch sizes, featuring MaxxTerra rubber, are expected to arrive by mid to late 2026. The expansion of Maxxis’ 32-inch range and the introduction of more aggressive tread patterns are timely as more manufacturers release 32-inch bikes, allowing riders to better test the touted benefits of larger wheels, such as improved rollover capability and stability in rough terrain. With these developments, Maxxis is positioning itself at the forefront of the emerging 32-inch mountain bike segment.
