Specialized Levo 4 EVO Turns Super Natural eMTB into Proper eEnduro Shredder eBike
Summary By: eMotoX
Specialized has introduced the Levo 4 EVO, an enhanced and more aggressive iteration of its popular Levo 4 eMTB, designed specifically to meet the demands of e-enduro riders. Building on the carbon Levo 4’s established strengths, including its powerful pedal-assist system, the EVO version features increased suspension travel with 170mm at the rear and 180mm up front, alongside gravity-oriented geometry tweaks. This combination aims to provide greater stability and confidence on steep, technical terrain, making the bike suitable for intense gravity-style riding and bikepark sessions without a shuttle.
While the Levo 4 EVO retains much of the original Levo 4’s frame design, Specialized has developed a new linkage system to accommodate the longer rear shock stroke, resulting in a slightly slacker head angle and a higher bottom bracket. These changes contribute to improved handling characteristics tailored to more aggressive trail riding. However, the EVO model is offered in fewer frame sizes, omitting the smallest S1 size due to the increased travel and geometry adjustments. Notably, there is no S-Works variant of the EVO, but riders can upgrade a standard Levo 4 frame with an EVO kit to achieve a custom build.
A significant update in the Levo 4 EVO is the introduction of a mechanical derailleur option alongside the existing electronic SRAM AXS system. This choice reflects the bike’s intended use on rugged, rocky trails where a mechanical drivetrain may prove more durable and cost-effective to maintain after heavy abuse. This practical addition underscores Specialized’s focus on reliability and ease of repair in demanding enduro environments.
The Levo 4 EVO is available in three builds, all equipped with 840Wh batteries and premium components, with prices ranging from approximately £5,500 for the alloy Comp version to over £10,000 for the Pro model featuring high-end suspension and electronic shifting. Specialized also offers a conversion kit for existing Levo 4 owners who want to upgrade their bikes to EVO specifications, allowing them to extend suspension travel and enhance performance without purchasing a new frame. This approach caters to riders seeking to push their current eMTB further into enduro territory.
