Solar Trade Groups Statements on Passage of the Utility RELIEF Act

The Maryland General Assembly has passed the Utility RELIEF Act, an energy omnibus bill aimed at expanding and supporting rooftop and community solar projects across the state. The legislation, which now awaits Governor Wes Moore’s signature, seeks to double the capacity of Maryland’s net metering programme from 3 gigawatts to 6 gigawatts. Solar trade organisations have welcomed the bill, emphasising its potential to lower energy prices and promote clean energy adoption. Georgina Arreola-Lennox of the Solar Energy Industries Association highlighted the bill’s balanced approach to evolving Maryland’s net metering framework while safeguarding existing investments.
