Mikula in the TOP 5 at MXGP of Sardegna! Best result of his career and in Osička MX Team history
Summary By: eMotoX
Julius Mikula achieved a landmark result at the MXGP of Sardegna, the fourth round of the 2026 Motocross World Championship, securing a top-six overall finish in the MX2 class. Competing on the notoriously demanding sandy track in Riola Sardo, Mikula impressed with a fifth-place finish in the first moto and eighth in the second, culminating in sixth place overall. This performance marked the best result of his career and the highest ever for the Osička MX Team in World Championship competition, highlighting both his skill and the team’s effective preparation.
The challenging conditions in Sardinia, characterised by deep, heavy sand and a rough surface, tested riders’ endurance and technique, with temperatures fluctuating between intense heat on Saturday and cooler weather on Sunday. Mikula’s first moto saw him start strongly, running as high as fourth before finishing fifth, and he recorded the second-fastest lap time behind race winner Sacha Coenen. Despite some minor errors in the second moto that dropped him from third to eighth, Mikula’s consistent pace and determination earned him valuable points and a career-best overall standing.
In contrast, Václav Janout faced significant difficulties in the EMX250 class, primarily due to poor starts that hampered his ability to contend on the sand-heavy circuit. Although he managed to gain positions during the races, the physical demands of overtaking in deep sand eventually took their toll, resulting in 28th and 29th place finishes in the motos and 32nd overall. Janout described the weekend as a “disaster” but remains optimistic about the upcoming round at his favourite track in Arco di Trento.
Looking ahead, both Mikula and Janout will compete at the MXGP of Trentino, held at the Pietramurata Circuit in Italy’s Trentino region. Mikula arrives buoyed by his recent breakthrough and currently sits 11th in the MX2 championship standings, while Janout hopes to improve on a challenging Sardinian outing at a venue that has historically suited his riding style. The next round promises to be a critical opportunity for both riders to build momentum in their respective championships.
