Specialized Ambush 3 Helmet Does BOA Fit Right, Adds Adjustable Visor

Specialized has unveiled the Ambush 3, the latest iteration of its popular trail helmet, designed to tackle common issues such as heat retention, ventilation, and accessory compatibility. Central to its design is the AirCage internal roll cage, which allows for significantly larger vents without compromising safety. This structural innovation supports the helmet’s expanded airflow system, enabling the inclusion of a 4D Cooling setup with widened mouth ports, longitudinal channels, and rear exhausts to enhance ventilation and heat dissipation. Compared to its predecessor, the Ambush 3 features more vents, particularly across the forehead, and introduces an adjustable visor with a flat top section designed to accommodate adhesive mounts for cameras or lights. To secure these accessories, the helmet includes a small Visor Lock tab that prevents movement, although its diminutive size may pose a risk of being misplaced. Additional practical features include hidden sunglass storage, adjustable TriFix ear splitters, and a FIDLOCK magnetic buckle, all contributing to a refined and user-friendly design. A notable upgrade is the integration of the BOA Fit System with FS1 technology, combined with Mips Air Node Pro impact protection, which together have earned the helmet a Virginia Tech 5-Star safety rating. Specialized and BOA have addressed previous comfort concerns by routing the BOA cord under the padding, preventing it from digging into the wearer’s temples and ensuring a secure yet comfortable fit.
