Infineon holds top spot in automotive semiconductors for sixth consecutive year as microcontroller share rises to 36%

Summary By: eMotoX
Infineon Technologies has maintained its position as the leading global supplier of automotive semiconductors for the sixth year running, according to TechInsights’ 2025 market share report. The overall automotive semiconductor market expanded to $74.4 billion in 2025, up from $69.9 billion the previous year. While Infineon’s market share slightly decreased from 13.2% to 12.8%, the company nonetheless widened its lead over the second-largest competitor, demonstrating sustained dominance in a growing sector. Infineon’s strength is particularly pronounced in key regions such as China, Europe, and South Korea, where it holds the top spot, while it ranks second in North America and Japan. The company’s most significant gains were seen in the automotive microcontroller segment, where its market share increased to 36.0%, up nearly four percentage points from 2024. These microcontrollers are critical components for real-time control in electric drivetrains, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and software-defined vehicle architectures, all of which are key drivers of demand in the automotive semiconductor market. Peter Schaefer, Infineon’s Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer for Automotive, highlighted the company’s continued leadership as evidence of its ability to meet evolving industry trends. He emphasised Infineon’s focus on software-defined vehicles and drivetrain electrification, noting that the company’s growing microcontroller share underlines its innovative capabilities. Since first achieving the top global ranking in 2020, Infineon has consistently reinforced its position through strategic investments and technological advancements. Looking ahead, Infineon’s dominance in microcontrollers positions it well to capitalise on the increasing complexity and electrification of vehicles. As automotive manufacturers continue to integrate more sophisticated electronic systems, the demand for powerful and reliable semiconductors is expected to rise. Infineon’s leadership in this space suggests it will remain a key player in shaping the future of automotive technology and supporting the transition to electric and software-driven vehicles.
