Wake Up Early, Go Fast on Ultralight Hunt 5AM Limitless Aero Wheels with Carbon Spokes

Hunt has unveiled its latest 5AM Limitless aero wheelset, designed to combine ultralight weight with cutting-edge aerodynamic performance for road racing. The new wheels feature front- and rear-specific rims optimised for modern 28-30mm tyres, with a claimed combined weight of just 1212 grams for the pair—exceptionally light for aero wheels with 58mm and 55mm rim depths. This innovative design aims to deliver superior speed on flat and rolling courses, making the 5AM Limitless wheels highly versatile for high-speed racing environments. The development process behind the 5AM Limitless wheels is notably comprehensive, involving a five-stage aerodynamic optimisation that includes computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multiple wind tunnel tests at GST and Silverstone, and real-world outdoor testing with sensor-based AeroSensor technology. This meticulous approach allowed Hunt to refine rim shapes and spoke configurations to reduce drag significantly. The front rim is deeper and wider, using a patented aero shape and a low-density polymer filler to maintain airflow and stability, while the rear rim is shallower and narrower to cut through turbulent air and save weight. A key innovation lies in the use of high tensile strength, aero-bladed carbon spokes made from UD carbon fibre combined with titanium hardware, which reduces both weight and drag by minimising spoke count—15 at the front and 18 at the rear. Hunt’s aerodynamic testing reveals impressive performance gains, with wind tunnel results showing the wheels to be over 4 watts faster than top competitors such as the ENVE 4.5 Pro and Roval Rapide Sprint. Outdoor testing further demonstrated an advantage of up to 8.5 watts over the Zipp 404 Firecrest, highlighting the wheels’ real-world speed benefits. Priced at £1999 for the version with stainless steel bearings, or £2489 for the upgraded model featuring hybrid CeramicSpeed bearings, the 5AM Limitless wheels are now available for pre-order. Hunt expects to begin shipping in the second half of May, with stock held in UK, US, and EU distribution centres. These wheels represent Hunt’s fastest and most advanced aero offering to date, potentially setting a new benchmark for lightweight, high-performance road racing wheels.
