Workhorse launches pricing promotion on W56 electric step vans
Summary By: eMotoX
Workhorse Group has launched a limited-time pricing promotion on its W56 electric step vans, aiming to attract fleet operators amid rising gas and diesel costs. The offer, running from April 1 to September 30, 2026, significantly reduces prices on both the Standard and Extended Wheelbase models. The Standard Wheelbase, with 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space and a 10,000-pound payload, is now priced from $196,000, a discount of $59,000. Meanwhile, the Extended Wheelbase, offering 1,200 cubic feet of cargo space and a 9,000-pound payload, is available from $204,000, saving buyers $61,000.
Both versions of the W56 are equipped with a 210 kWh battery pack, with a recently introduced 140 kWh variant offering an estimated range of 100 miles and a lower starting price of $169,000. All models are manufactured at Workhorse’s facility in Union City, Indiana, and sold through a national dealer network. The price reductions have been facilitated by operational efficiencies and cost savings resulting from Workhorse’s merger with Motiv Electric Trucks in December 2025, which has enabled economies of scale and streamlined supply chains.
State incentive programmes can further reduce the cost of these electric vans, making them competitive with traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. For example, California’s HVIP offers incentives between $60,000 and $80,000, while Washington’s upcoming WAZIP scheme proposes even higher rebates of $60,000 to $100,000. These financial supports, combined with Workhorse’s promotional pricing, have the potential to eliminate the price gap between electric and conventional step vans, encouraging wider adoption among fleet operators.
Scott Griffith, CEO of Workhorse, emphasised the company’s understanding of the current fuel price pressures faced by fleet operators, citing their own experience through the Stables by Workhorse FedEx Ground operation. Griffith highlighted that lowering the upfront cost of the W56 is a practical step to support customers navigating volatile fuel markets. With package delivery companies planning ahead for peak seasons, the timing of this promotion could accelerate the transition to electric vehicles within the logistics sector.
Workhorse’s data shows a 64 percent reduction in operating costs compared to traditional petrol and diesel vehicles, underscoring the economic benefits of electric step vans. As the industry seeks sustainable and cost-effective solutions, this pricing initiative, alongside state incentives and operational savings, positions the W56 as a competitive option for fleets looking to reduce emissions and fuel expenses.
