'She could not resist' – Pauline Ferrand-Prévot will defend Paris-Roubaix Femmes title after all

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot will defend her Paris-Roubaix Femmes title this Sunday, much to the surprise of her rivals. Initially, the French Visma-Lease a Bike rider had planned to focus on the hillier Ardennes Classics, but her team revealed she "could not resist" the opportunity to race Roubaix again. Joining her will be Marianne Vos, the seasoned Dutch rider and former runner-up in the 2021 edition, providing the team with a formidable duo. Visma-Lease a Bike coach Jan Boven highlighted the strategic advantage of having both Ferrand-Prévot and Vos on the start line, emphasising that success would depend on smart racing and mutual support. He noted that Ferrand-Prévot’s enthusiasm for Roubaix adds a new dynamic to the team’s approach, increasing their tactical options. The squad’s overall strength and balance position them well to aim for a top result in this iconic cobbled classic. Ferrand-Prévot’s previous victory at Paris-Roubaix Femmes was a standout moment, achieved shortly after her Olympic mountain bike triumph in Paris 2024. Her decisive attack on the Carrefour de l’Abre sector secured a solo win, marking a remarkable return to road racing. Meanwhile, Vos will be making a poignant return to competition after a period of mourning following her father’s recent passing. She expressed that cycling and the race itself hold special significance for her during this difficult time. Vos described the unique character of Paris-Roubaix Femmes, acknowledging the challenge of the cobbled sectors but also the allure of the route leading to the Roubaix velodrome. Her remarks underscored the race’s distinct place in the cycling calendar and her personal connection to it. Alongside Ferrand-Prévot and Vos, the Visma-Lease a Bike team will field Lieke Nooijen, Nienke Veenhoven, Daniek Hengeveld, and Margaux Vigié, rounding out a strong lineup for the event.
