50% More Power Avinox M2S eBike Motor Blows Minds: First Rides on 1500W, 150Nm
Summary By: eMotoX
Avinox has unveiled its second-generation M2S eBike motor, delivering a substantial power upgrade with 1500W peak output and 150Nm of torque. This marks a significant step up from the original Avinox M1 motor, which offered 1000W and 105Nm, already considered a benchmark in the eMTB sector. The M2S maintains a compact form factor and similar weight to its predecessor but boasts a 45% increase in power density and over 21% more torque density, positioning it as one of the most powerful and compact eBike motors currently available.
Despite the impressive power figures, early rides suggest the M2S offers a surprisingly smooth and controllable power delivery, particularly at lower cadences and lighter pedal inputs. Riders noted that while the motor can rocket up steep climbs when pushed hard, it requires some adaptation to manage the sudden bursts of acceleration, especially on technical trails. The motor’s Boost mode provides a short burst of maximum power for up to 60 seconds, while the Turbo mode sustains high performance more consistently, making it suitable for a range of riding styles and conditions.
Avinox’s new motor also incorporates several technical enhancements aimed at improving efficiency and reliability. These include an updated helical dual-gear meshing design to reduce gear noise and pedal kickback, a temperature sensor, improved cooling fins, and flat wire windings to better dissipate heat. Such refinements contribute to quieter operation and more consistent power output, enhancing the overall riding experience and battery efficiency.
In addition to the motor upgrade, Avinox has expanded its battery options to include a new 700Wh fast-charge-compatible battery, positioned between the previous 600Wh and 800Wh models. This new battery weighs 3.18kg and aims to strike a balance between range and weight, addressing rider preferences. Furthermore, Avinox now offers removable 600Wh and 800Wh batteries on select eMTBs, with the potential for dual-battery setups to extend range even further. A new 7A fast charger also allows for quicker recharging, significantly reducing downtime between rides.
The Avinox M2S motor is already generating considerable interest, with at least 19 new eMTBs equipped with the system launching imminently and around 60 eBike manufacturers reportedly collaborating with Avinox. The company has also distanced itself from its DJI origins, operating independently to focus solely on eBike drive technology. This strategic move, along with the motor’s impressive performance and technical advancements, suggests Avinox is set to be a major player in the evolving high-power eMTB market.
