Belgian rider Florian Vermeersch, a recognised specialist in the cobbled Classics, has reportedly extended his contract with UAE Team Emirates-XRG until the end of 2029. The 27-year-old, who joined the team in 2025 after moving from Lotto-Dstny, was initially set to be under contract only through the current season. His renewal comes amid a strong run of form this spring, where he has played a crucial support role for team leader Tadej Pogačar, particularly during the cobbled Classics campaign. Vermeersch has demonstrated his value through several notable performances, including podium finishes in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the E3 Saxo Classic, as well as a seventh-place finish in the recent Tour of Flanders. His role as a key domestique for Pogačar has been especially important given the team’s injury challenges this season. Pogačar himself has previously referred to Vermeersch as a “Plan B” option, highlighting the Belgian’s versatility and reliability in the toughest races. The rider’s credentials extend beyond the road, having claimed the Gravel World Championship title in 2025, underscoring his all-round capabilities. Despite reported interest from other teams such as Alpecin-Premier Tech for the 2027 season, Vermeersch appears committed to continuing his partnership with UAE Team Emirates-XRG. He is expected to once again support Pogačar in upcoming Monument races, including Paris-Roubaix, where he finished fifth last year.
